#12...Do You Digg?
I took a look at Digg, Reddit, Newsvine and Mixx. I really liked the Newsvine site. I added a link to my blog. It has the top news, local news, sports etc. It is easy to navigate and very easy to read. I went into the New York Times and since I am a big Vikings fan, and "not" a Green Bay fan I read & shared the "Vikings accused of Favre contract". All the Vikings need is another scandal...but I am dedicated and will watch them anyway!!
I did register in Newsvine and now I have the capability to write & edit articles. What I thought was very interesting is that I am able to watch & discuss issues with other viewers. The latest discussion on NBC Nightly News was on U.S politics & the unfolding presidential election...questions can also be posted in advance.

#11...Social Media...Tagging on Del.icio.us
Tagging is a good way to organize your bookmarks and a very good reference tool. I did go back into my photostream on Flickr and added tags to my pictures. Also added a few tags to my blog posts. I tried to register in del.icio.us from my staff computer, but did not succeed. Will try again at home on my personal computer and play around with it again. I have quite a few sites bookmarked so will tag these and be more organized??

Wednesday July 16...Added post on "Social Networking"
I was tuned into "Good Morning America" this morning and they had a segment on "Social Networking". It was focused on a child that was playing games on Facebook. The child downloaded a computer game and for extra points was asked to fill out a credit application. Well as a child, who would think that this would cause problems?? Well, they filled in their social security # and received an application in the mail for a car loan !!
Please stress to your children to be careful what messages they put in any social network, such as myspace, facebook, youtube etc. Problems are showing up when kids leave a message that say they are going on vacation, (people are breaking into the family home) while they are gone, kids are leaving messages about where they work, what time they get off etc. Be aware of fraud alerts, put up a red flag when asked for SS#'s.
Be aware that facebook is private, but the games are not. I really worry about the children ( unsupervised kids, especially the young teen) who use the computers at the Library and are in these social networking sites.
The parents are responsible, but they are not around to supervise them!! What's a (mother) to do??

#10...Wikis
This was interesting.. I did not know what a Wiki was. That's how challenged I am with the "23 Things".
I discovered that Wiki's are easy to use, anyone can make changes, free to set up, great for meetings, & posting agendas. Don't know yet how I will use a Wiki, but may set one for a book club and encourage community members to add to it. I looked at the 23 Things on a Stick Wiki and added a entry. Was fun to read the comments.

#9....Collaboration Tools
After experimenting with Google Docs, I definitely will use it more often. Libraries that cooperate with programming etc. making up flyers can sure get lots of use out of the program. I like where they can edit it and send it back. I work a lot with excel in a program set up for household expenses, budgets etc. so will try the spreadsheets. Didn't spend too much time on this "thing". But got an overview of what is available.

#8...Share your Creations
I played around with Thumbstacks.com, I did not find that program to my liking. It is primary for presentations. I then went into picturetrail.com. That is where I created my "Spring Beauty" slide show. This was so fun to create, but really was confused on how to load to my blog. Kept playing around until..all at once it was there!!! This is what my backyard looks like in the spring.. My husband loves to take these pictures.
I also did some experimenting with photobucket, which I would like to spend some more time on also. FUN, FUN!!!
